At your recommendation, I read "Acts of the Apostles." I really enjoyed it. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I thought it had a few rough patches, but overall was quite enjoyable. Anything else in the lists so far that has caught your attention? I also read 1632 at your recommendation, and I have read Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom. I can’t remember if you recommended that, or if I found it because of XKCD references to Cory Doctorow. It was very creative, but, I had a hard time caring a whole lot about it. I’m certain I recommended Down and Out at some point – I enjoyed it for the speculative science, but found the dialog a bit stiff. What did you think of 1632? I really enjoyed 1632. I’ve tried reading some of Harry Turtledove’s alternative history novels, and I didn’t especially enjoy them. 1632, on the other hand, was excellent. I also really enjoyed Acts of the Apostles, although the rough patches kind of gave me hives. But hell, I’ve read the thing so many times—about a million—that I’ve lost perspective on it. Today I’m mailing out copies of my new book, The Pains, which is also available for free download (HTML only, at this point), and in glorious printed book form. Finally, my second book, the novella Cheap Complex Devices, is available in both PDF and HTML on wetmachine, although there too I hope you’ll consider buying a printed copy, which is the only way I make any money off of writing these things. Regards, jrs Thanks for visiting my blog! You raise an excellent point – just because these books ARE available should not stop any of us from purchasing the ones we enjoy! I personally own dead-tree copies of most of the books I’ve linked thus far. |
